Community WaSH & Hygiene Transformation Initiative

Need

Unsafe sanitation and poor hygiene practices continue to contribute to disease outbreaks, poor health outcomes, and reduced quality of life in vulnerable communities. Women and girls are disproportionately affected due to inadequate sanitation facilities and water access.

Improving WaSH infrastructure and behaviour is critical for public health, dignity, environmental sustainability, and reducing preventable health vulnerabilities in low-income communities.

Community WaSH initiative

Objective

This initiative focuses on promoting access to safe sanitation, clean water, hygiene awareness, and community-led behaviour change practices in underserved communities to improve overall health outcomes.

Tools/Activities

The initiative supports hygiene education campaigns, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene awareness, and local water conservation activities while strengthening school and community participation.

Sanitation and hygiene awareness

Intervention Strategy

The initiative is designed as a high-impact community mobilisation intervention that combines infrastructure support with behaviour change communication to improve public health outcomes and environmental hygiene.

Theory of Change

If communities gain access to safe sanitation, clean water, and hygiene education, then health risks and waterborne diseases will reduce while community wellbeing improves. Long-term behaviour change and community ownership will create healthier and more resilient communities over time.
