A SILENT GENOCIDE
CAUSE INTRODUCTION
In the heart of backward Indian families, a silent genocide is unfolding. Unwanted girls are born into a world of discrimination, deprived of basic healthcare and treatment, creating a breeding ground for deadly diseases like tuberculosis (TB). These marginalised girls face malnutrition, substandard living conditions, limited education, and early marriages, all of which weaken their immune systems, making them vulnerable to TB. Tragically, the negligence of parents in providing timely treatment makes these young girls unwitting carriers of this lethal disease.
The Global Perspective
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, there were 10 million new TB cases worldwide, causing 1.5 million deaths. India, China, and Indonesia bear the highest burden. The Government of India aims to reduce new TB cases by 80% by 2025 through the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP). TB-HIV co-infection affects 8.2% of TB patients, while a significant diagnosis gap leaves 3.3 million untreated. Women and children, especially girls, are disproportionately affected.
OUR ACTION
We are taking action to change this narrative:
- Early Diagnosis: Health camps in slum areas target at-risk girls, ensuring early detection and accurate treatment.
- Sensitization Camps: We raise awareness in slum communities about TB prevention, early detection, and healthy living to strengthen immune systems.
- Counselling for Parents: Specialised sessions address cultural biases, promoting parental support for daughters' treatment.
- Health and Nutrition Support: We provide basic support, nutritious meals, and healthcare resources, enhancing treatment effectiveness.
- Monitoring and Support: We offer comprehensive monitoring, follow-ups, and emotional support to ensure optimal outcomes.
THE IMPACT
Our approach is transforming lives and communities:
- Early Diagnosis: Prevents disease progression and reduces transmission risk.
- Sensitization: Empowers communities to actively engage in TB prevention.
- Overcoming Negligence: Promotes parental support, impacting overall well-being.
- Holistic Support: Improves health and resilience, combating the disease.
- Government Collaboration: Strengthens the framework for TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Our initiative is changing lives through early diagnosis, community sensitization, counselling, holistic support, and continuous monitoring. With your support, we can continue making a profound difference in the fight against tuberculosis.
